Expert Piano - Fortepiano and Harpsichord Tuning

David Ashton's Tuning Expertise spans over Forty Years

Dave's base is in Victoria and makes frequent working trips to Calgary where he maintains a large customer base and continues to provide a first class tuning service.

David Ashton tunes all makes of pianos, but it's understood that a higher quality instrument will of course sound better after tuning than a lesser quality piano. He always strives to tune each instrument to his high standard having being trained at Steinway & Sons, and accordingly every instrument he tunes will sound the best that your piano will allow.

What does it cost: Dave's piano tuning fees are always a standard flat rate, which includes his travel time and not withstanding how long any particular tuning takes. Sometimes it's hard to gauge exactly how long a particular tuning will take, and this can vary between :45 - 2:30 yet his tuning fee will still be his standard rate, thus making it easier for you to budget. For current piano tuning fees in your area please call, email or click here. Rural tunings: Tunings fees would be slightly higher for just one piano tuned according to distances, or his standard in-town flat rate if several tunings can be lined up for the same day in your area.

My piano has not been tuned in many years: Given that a piano needs to be tuned at least twice per year, consequently if your instrument has not been tuned for several or many years, the pitch would have invariably dropped. Advising you first, Dave Ashton approaches this problem with a plan to resolve this issue by usually dramatically raising the pitch in a first initial tuning session (if the instrument will allow). Then letting your instrument settle for a period of time, followed up with a second visit to perform a regular fine tuning which will at that stage stabilize your instrument at the concert pitch. Depending upon your pianos circumstances and history, some instruments require even more help to fully restore their correct concert pitch to A 440.
